Set in the heart of the Midwest, the Hub City Brewing Company is located five miles east of the historic town of Oelwein, Iowa. Founded in 1872 on a plot of land nestled amongst the fields, the city served as a hub for three major branches of the Chicago Great Western Railway, earning it the nickname of “Hub City” during the heyday of the railroad. Our beers pay homage to this historic Iowa town and the romantic era of the iron horse.

We are brewing six different styles of craft beer at the present time with seasonal brews and one more to be introduced at a later date. The styles include an Oatmeal Stout, Brown Porter, Brown Ale, Amber Ale, German Hefeweizen Wheat, and Golden Ale. They are sold in 12 ounce heritage bottles by the six-pack or case, and also in half or sixth barrel kegs.

Hub City Brews
Wheat Beer
Our German style wheat beer is an exploration of our family roots. This is a traditional style that closely mirrors a true German wheat beer. We use only barley, wheat, and German noble hops. As you sample this beer you will notice the dominant banana notes with a slight clove undertone. When you pour this beer we suggest that you swirl the bottle to get the sediment for the full flavor.

Brown Ale
Our Brown Ale is a medium-bodied beer in the traditional English style. It has a pale brown color with hints of nut and caramel. This beer has a light, clean flavor and smooth finish with just a hint of sweetness, perfect for warm summer days.

Oatmeal Stout
Our Oatmeal Stout is so named for the 10% oat content of the grains. You will find this stout to pour black with a nice thick head that remains. As you taste this beer you will find coffee and dark chocolate as the dominating flavors with a sweet finale. We left this beer with a lighter carbonation so you can enjoy the true flavor of this beer that we find tastes its best between 50-55°F.

Olde Browne Porter

Our Olde Browne Porter is a full-bodied beer that will please the palate of those that prefer a richer beer. This beer exhibits hints of nut, toffee, and coffee with a slight bitterness unique to this beer in our brands. This is a great beer to finish off a long day that can be enjoyed on its own or with a meal. This beer was originally sold as our Brown Ale from which it gets its name.

Golden Ale
Our Golden Ale is our answer to the American standard light beer. It pours a nice golden color with a light body and hop flavoring and crisp carbonation. It is a clean and refreshing beer that tastes great on those hot summer days after a hard days work.

Amber Ale
Our Amber Ale is a slightly sweet beer that focuses on a malty flavor and is very lightly hopped. It is a nice amber to almost red hue. The dominant flavors are caramel, bread or biscuit, and a slightly fruity taste. This beer has a malty aroma with just a hint of hops.
